Spring Fling is an informal event held each year in April or May and geared toward young professionals. While our most recent event was an afternoon garden tour, the roots of the event come from a tradition started in the 1960s called “Patio Parties” on cool evenings in early summertime. Traditionally, these events were small and informal, hosted by young professionals at their homes, and involved prestigious guest speakers giving lectures outside, on the patio, in a salon-style arrangement. Among our notable speakers was none other than consumer advocate and politician, Ralph Nader, who rose to household name recognition in the 1980s and 90s.
