September 2017 DC Phi Beta Kappa Book Club Meeting

Wednesday, September 27, 2017 -
7:00pm to 8:30pm
Nagomi Izakaya, 1990 M St NW, Washington, DC 20036
Guests Allowed:

Hello all,

Our September meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 at 7:00pm at Nagomi Izakaya, 1990 M St NW. The nearest metro stations are Dupont Circle (South Entrance) and Foggy Bottom.

We'll be discussing Rising from the Rails: Pullman Porters and the Making of the Black Middle Class by Larry Tye (Nonfiction, 352 pgs). All DCPBK members and guests are invited to attend.

At this meeting I'd encourage everyone to bring in any books you may be looking to clean out. We first see if anyone else would like to give the books a new home internally, and if there are any left over, we have a member who recommended a DC non-profit called "Turning the Page," which will accept any donations we have.

Please see below for our selections for the remainder of the Fall 2017 DC PBK Book Club Series, as recommended and voted in by your fellow book club members.

October- A Taste for Death by P.D. James, Fiction, 480 pgs

November- Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis by J.D. Vance, Nonfiction/Memoir, 273 pgs

December- Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Classic, 368 pg

*Please update your RSVP by 7 p.m. on Tuesday the 26th, so I can give the restaurant an accurate head count.*

I hope to see many of you there!

Sincerely, Kate Hannon
